How slimline double glazing allows you to achieve modern energy efficiency without compromising the delicate glazing bars of period windows.
For decades, owners of period properties faced a frustrating choice: suffer the cold draughts and noise of original single glazing, or ruin the aesthetic of their homes with bulky, modern double-glazed units. Slimline double glazing has emerged as the definitive solution to this problem.
The Problem with Standard Units
Standard double-glazed units are often too thick (typically 24mm or 28mm) to fit into elegant, narrow Georgian or Victorian glazing bars. Attempting to fit them requires the timber bars to be made unnaturally thick and chunky, immediately destroying the delicate proportions of a historic window.
How Slimline Glazing Works
Slimline double glazing units can be as thin as 12mm overall. To compensate for the reduced cavity between the glass panes, they are filled with heavy inert gases like Krypton or Xenon, which provide superior insulation compared to the standard Argon gas.
These advanced units achieve excellent U-values, keeping the heat in and the cold out, while remaining virtually indistinguishable from traditional single glazing when installed.
Preserving Period Aesthetics
The narrow profile of slimline glazing allows us to manufacture beautiful, authentic-looking timber sash windows with solid, structurally integral glazing bars that look entirely traditional. Your period home stays warm, quiet, and perfectly in keeping with its architectural heritage.
